Certificate in Transformative Learning

Applications for the Certificate Program are open now!

What is it?

TLF offers a Certificate of Transformative Learning. Hours earned for a completed certificate can be applied as credit towards Ubiquity’s graduate degree program to earn a low-cost Master’s and PhD in Transformative Learning.

Our certificate program is transformative; it has the power to change outlook and character dramatically. Our core values, present in every course, of trust, embodiment, and self-reflection provide the medium for dramatic change to occur.

Who Is the Program For?

Transformative Learning Foundation is for those who realize the need to transform themselves in order to actualize justice in the community, society and world.

TLF attracts participants of diverse backgrounds and passions—educators, parents, environmentalists, artists, spiritual enthusiasts, psychologists, and other practitioners seeking meaningful and relational education.

The broad range of knowledge and skills that can be gained from engagement with each of our Zones (African and Indigenous Wisdom, Expressive Arts, Whole Human Development for the entire lifespan, and specifics on Spiritual Activism) can be skillfully applied in many professional fields, non-profit organizations, and social contexts.

Program Outcomes

By the end of their graduate degree in Transformative Learning students, depending on their learning journey, will be able to:

  • Self-reflect in ways that allow trust to spring forth in relationships and learning.

  • Embody and embrace radical changes in perspective.

  • Pass along their capacity for transformation to people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Access a wider range of ways of being, knowing, creating, and communicating.

  • Become a force of change and social transformation in the areas that are most meaningful to them.

  • Expand their competence as practitioners in their fields with newfound precision, elegance, and wisdom.

  • Understand how children see and organize their world so they can respond in ways that bring forth optimal well being in families, educational venues, and social services.

  • Bring their understanding of spiritual activism to transform themselves, their organization, and their society.

  • Bring to life the wisdom of insight, thoughts, and feelings through the creativity of expressive arts in multiple media.

  • Fully experience reverence for Earth and connect with Indigenous ways of knowing that can inform how we live our lives.

  • Connect with African indigenous knowledge and wisdom to deepen their experience of the wholeness, harmony, and interrelatedness of all existence.

Cost and Accessibility

Transformative Learning Foundation revolutionizes education by providing low cost, high quality education free from the constraints of the crippling expense of mainstream universities, with its concurrent degrading alliance with banks and government.

Traditional education has failed to bring forth income equity, equality to people of color and women, and relational appreciation for Earth and one another. It is time to move on!

The Transformative Learning Foundation offers quality courses taught by faculty who are experts and practitioners in their field without burdening our students financially. The combined cost of the Certificate Program and the Master’s degree through our alliance with Ubiquity University is approximately 20% less than the cost of a traditional Master’s degree, and the cost of the combined PhD program is approximately 10% less than a traditional PhD (source: Education Data Initiative). Please visit our Financial Information page for a detailed breakdown of costs and affordability information.

How does it work?

Course Hours:

Certificate completion requires 300 course participation hours. Total hours for each course vary according to faculty designated requirements. However, courses average 30 hours each, and it takes about 10 courses to complete the program.

Course hours accrue in two ways: online class attendance and faculty-assigned engagement hours. Online classes are held through Zoom at times scheduled by faculty, and live attendance is required. Engagement hours bring learning into the world in the form of projects, public presentations, readings, and class assignments, which are completed outside of scheduled online class times.

Zones:

Courses are categorized into 5 Learning Zones, each with a unique approach to Transformation: Whole Human Development, Spiritual Activism, African Wisdom, Indigenous Wisdom, and Expressive Arts. Each Zone has a core course which embodies the essence of its transformational qualities. All of the five core courses are required for Certificate Completion. To learn more about the Zones, please visit Our Educational Design.

Advising:

Upon acceptance at TLF, each student is assigned an advisor for support in all aspects of the Certificate Program. Their primary responsibility is to help the student complete the program. The relationship between the student and the advisor is based in trust and communication. The advisor will know the student’s goals and intentions, their timeline, their strengths and challenges, and their understanding of transformation.

They will ensure the student is well informed of the total cost of the program, affordability options, relevant events, and the background of the facilitators and courses. They will provide instruction on navigating our online resources, including Circle, and our partner’s resources. Together, they will agree upon methods and frequency of contact and communication.
