The SelfDesign Foundation is emerging to include the context of lifelong learning. Let’s face it, learning is life long and it certainly goes beyond traditional schooling! And traditional, we are not. As the Chair of the Board of Directors, I am proud to say that we see education as learning for life-and one well lived, one where WE each author the experience. To quote Carl Rogers, “The deeper we go into ourselves, as particular and unique, seeking for our own individual identity, the more we find the whole human species.” When this pursuit is integral to the learning environment it invites one to design her/his learning in a meaningful way -with awareness of the wisdom from within. Uncovering this wisdom from the inside, is essential for people to be connected first to themselves, then to each other and then to the earth as a living system. To quote, Anne Adams, SDF Board Member, “ Imagine a world where learning centers can be created to systemically educate human beings through the integrating of their ow distinct intelligences-emotional, physical, mental, to experience and express-reflection, complexity, paradox, dichotomy, choice, dialogue, love flexibility, compassion, partnership, new paradigms, and our connection to all of life.”
We are committed to being part of the needed change for how education could be a force for positive societal change. We are bold in our vision to become a leading facilitator for wisdom in education, awakening potential for the evolution of our consciousness.
The SelfDesign Graduate Institute, now in our 7th year, continues to attract learners from around the world! Our faculty, a unique group of mentors-are even more engaged in facilitating and guiding the development of authentic learning, and this learning continues to grow in ways that is reciprocal. Together the relationships that are forming with their quality mentoring is generating additional courses and directed studies. The whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts, as we listen to all of our stakeholders. New programs, such as the SD Certificate Programs, The Personalized Learning Academy and SelfDesigning My Elderhood have emerged as we considered what additional offerings could we bring forward that would grow the intergenerational capacity of a learning community of care. The SDGi alumni organization is taking shape and what has been unfolding is that many do not want to leave -and that says a lot in itself!! So many are bringing their expertise to growing our SelfDesign Community, beyond their graduation.
We are filled with anticipation as we invite you to take a look around, and dive deeper into the areas that most interest you. Our intention is to invite you to connect with us through a conversation, a webinar, a zoom conference or a comment on an article or reflection. As you take a look, you may be thinking of other people who could benefit from a course or a program-please do pay it forward! You may be inclined to volunteer your time and talent to facilitate the growth of learning communities, where wisdom knows no age.
